I never followed Newt much; maybe I'm just too young at 25. I've seen a few clips on youtube, and I like the way he expresses his points. In this one, he's comparing the goverment inefficiency in handling immigration issues to efficient companies within the US.
Send them all a package!

Agree or disagree with the guy's politics, but he is a very smart person and extremely good at articulating an argument.
I remember in the early 90's the Clinton administration was talking about punishing Japanese companies for dumping luxury brand auto's below cost to try to build up the Acura and Lexus brands. Tariffs and such. The administration at the time was getting all kinds of backlash from Japan and they were threatening all kinds of tarrifs on imported US goods if the US acted and both sides were walking towards a trade war which would have hurt consumers.
I saw Newt make the point that amounted to basically paraphrased:
"You have to understand something about the culture of Japan and making public statements, they feel they have to save face. If you make public statements, they have a different culture and they feel they have to do something to save face and you end up escalating the situation."
"You can do what the French do. Call them behind the scenes and tell them we think you are dumping cars below cost and this is hurting our carmakers and giving an unfare advantage. We are not going to put tariffs on these cars. But what we are going to do is require that all Japanese cars must be inspected before they enter the country. We will have only one inspector, he will be located in New York. He will also be on vacation 30 weeks per year. Do this and Japan would change the business practice quietly without escalating into a trade war. They would have no need to publicly save face and retaliate"
