a few vacation pictures
just got back from the big island. haven't really gone through most of the pics, but here's a few :
nice black sand beach :

nicer green sand beach and my girlfriend's toes :

this beach is about a 3 mile hike in and out, and is green because the sand is primarily made from an olivine deposit. it doesn't look quite this green in person - need to adjust the pic better in ps :

REALLY black sand and lava cliffs :

lava pouring into the ocean at night, full moon :

lava pouring into the ocean up close and personal :

we got about 50 feet from this active lava flow... it was pretty scary, certainly not advised. the ground is HOT everywhere, the lava flowing into the sea spits and tosses chunks of flaming rock all over, the clouds of steam are pretty nasty and smell horrible, and in many spots you can see molten lava just a few feet under the "hard" rock that you're walking on. nonetheless, i had to see it up close. it was about 3 miles from the end of the road, a very difficult hike at night over completely broken and crazy terrain.
the rest of the trip, we just loafed in our room, on our lanai, and at the hotel pools or beach. anyone planning on going to the big island, the four seasons at hualalei is a NICE place.

Very Nice! Next time you come to the Big Island, look me up. I live in Kailua-Kona. Yes the Four Seasons at Hualalai is a great place. Excellent golf, great resturaunts (the "Club Grille" is great), unbelievable spa, and just a very relaxing secluded place to stay at. Glad you enjoyed it here.
