Default Final Fantasy : The Spirits Within

Wow.

I mean, wow.

Go see it. Really.

Especially if you had a Digital Light Processing theater near you.

it's really good (visually) and the plot has more to it than ALOT of movies lately! Two thumbs up!

It's kinda sad that it looks like they did just a little less work on the main woman of the movie...her older scientist friend had more detail to his movements and textures...sorry just nitpicking...

It's a great movie, go out and catch your self a show now

I'm sorry, but that movie made no damn sense to me at all.... Now, the visuals were absolutely spectacular...I spent half the movie just watching the animation. It won't be long now before we can't tell the difference between a CG person and a real one. Maybe another 5-10 years, if that long.

Anyway, having never played the Final Fantasy games, I may be missing some key elements to understanding the plot. Are the movie and the games connected? Some examples (and I'll try not to be a spoiler): What the hell are these "8 Spirits" things? How are the humans tracking them? How do they even know there are 8 of them? Some history of the invasion would have been nice, too. Anyway, I'll quit now...

The critical reviews have been great for the presentation as well as the story.

Any ideas where I can find a list of DLP fitted theaters.

Under the DLP link I posted above, there's a section on locations... Hmmm... Ah, here it is. You in NJ? How far away is NY from you?

As far as the plot - it's a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy. Definitely some suspension of disbelief required, and it's not quite as fleshed out as, say, Lord of the Rings. But it's a good speculative fiction story, IMO. If you can accept anti-grav in Star Wars, why not spirits in Final Fantasy? There's one glaring cliche, and it's perhaps a bit derivitive of a certain other movie (don't want to spoil anything for anybody.)

But it's definitely worth seeing. Even at full price. I was totally amazed.

From what I understand, the movie uses elements from the game, but they're actually different settings - the movie is unique. It's just done by the same creator as the games. (I haven't played any of them.)

From the FF games that I've played, there's no direct correlation between the games and the movie.
The only thing that would be the same is the "collection" of items to continue the story.
