Finally broke down and got a Blu-Ray player.

if your going Blu-Ray (and, btw - you should) DEFINITELY go PS3. A lot of the other players are a bit buggy, and NONE of them load as fast. Plus you have an excuse for your wife when you want to get a console game player...

I have both Hd dvd and a ps3 blu ray, I love it, but you need 7.1 surround to really enjoy it.

For me the BR PQ isn't THAT much better than upconverting DVD players. Where I notice the big difference is sound fidelity. The movie experience is that much better with the improved, uncompressed sound.

I do as well. HD DVD and PS3 along with an ONKYO 7.1 receiver. But you need to have HDMI inputs in your receiver to be able to listen to 7 discrete audio channel sound tracks.

For me, it doesn't get any better than this:

1. Rambo: When Rambo gets on the gun turret at the end. The 7.1 is amazing. You hear bullets behind you.
2. 3:10 to Yuma shoot out, bullets behind you as well!
3. Any PS3 game that supports 7.1, GT5 is awesome. When cars come up on you from behind you or pass you, you hear it. If you have a mid-engine car you hear it behind you.

If anyone on here has a 7.1 capable receiver with HDMI, Lionsgate is the best with all of their films pretty much in 7.1.

I really hope matrix / saving private ryan come out on blu-ray, imagine the hallway scene and D-day in fully uncompressed surround sound.
