Thanks for the suggestions, folks!

I wonder if the renters insurance will cover my car, too.

However, I'm very excited that I'll finally be able to enjoy the independence and privacy.

Watch your budget! That's the main thing. Spending money on going out to dinner, ordering pizza, cds, dvds, alcohol and other stuff like that add up like you wouldn't believe. Save your money.
Oh and since it's your place and you're paying rent you set the rules. Don't let your friends come over and be stupid and cause you to lose your deposit (what of it you'd get back). Remember, it's your money.

ok I lived in redmond for a while, a few things to watch for and some advice. there are cops EVERYWHERE there....be careful. Make the trip to Walmart in renton for all your goods, never shop at a grocery store unless you absolutly have to this will seriosuly save you hundreds a month.....depending on how much stuff you go through. dont get cable right away untill you see what your other bills will be like, water/power/ anythign you may have. Ikea is a great place to furnish a place for cheap. Get rubbermaid containers instead of boxes to move...they are only a couple bucks a piec enad make moving a snap!

Expect to pay about double what you figured. After all the hookup fees, furniture, and electronic goodies money will be tight. You should also get renters insurance. It's cheap and protects your goods from thieft, fire, and flooding. I remember the good old days.

hey, i recently moved out of my parent's at the age of 26!

start clipping coupons! seriously, start getting fliers from your neighborhood supermarket/grocery store to see what their weekly specials are and take advantage of that! cuz eating out at restaurants all the time takes a toll on your wallet, as someone mentioned already. have your GF over for dinner and cook together or cook for her it's definitely easier to cook for 2 than for 1.

(no offense to anyone who clips coupons...my roommate does it so i'm not making fun.)

as for things to bring, i would suggest stuff that you already have that you won't want to spend more money on, like electronics (i.e. tv, stereo, computer). when i moved out, i actually purchased a new bed and mattress and left my old one at my parent's place in case i ever visit on the weekends, then i'd have something to sleep on. i did, however, move my dresser cuz i figured i'd bring all my clothes with me to my new apt and pack a bag when i visit my parents.

good luck!
