Hmmm... so I guess there aren't any other fish pond owners/keepers out there. If I have time this weekend, I may start excavation for my pond.

Shelly, did you secure those rocks that border your pond? If so, how'd ya do it? Also what kind of algae are you getting? If its the kind that grows along the sides of the pond, you can try and control it with fish/snails. If you're getting the kind of algae that's clouding the water, you may not have enough biological filtration for your current fish load. How long have you had the filter running in your pond?

I'm in the process of digging my Koi pond currently. I'm behind schedule and won't populate it until next year at this point. Unfortunately, it's impossible to get anything bigger than a wheelbarrow behind my house so I'm having to do all the digging by hand and carry it out load by load. I've done enough research to properly plan the pond, but not enough to maintain it yet. I hope to learn as I go.

Shelley. Go to HGTV.com and then do a search for "garden pond". There are a whole bunch of writeups on DIY ponds, and how to look after them.

BTW. If you've got fish in your pond, you WANT algae! (What I really mean is that the fish want the algae.)

thanks guys.. The algae is along the sides of the pond (not a huge deal with me) but the water is also cloudy and I really do not want to use chemicals to clear it. I just think a clear looking pond is more attractive and less dirty looking. I agree the biological system is liekly not adequate. I have some floating plants, and bottom potted plants. The pond is in full sun so this increases the algae growth.

The rocks around the top portion are layed on top of each other. The are not secured in anyway. I have a lot of fun with it, and it is a learning proces.

Thanks for the links....

I would love to see pictures. This is my other hobby and I find it interesting what other people do. I wish I could winter the fish outside but I doubt it. Not with our winters. AB has milder temps I think..
