Fishing...would this be unsportmanlike?

I'd like to go fishing in a place like the ending of the movie "a river runs through it" where the old guy stands by himself in that river.
That would be so nice...

If most fisherman were "sportsmanlike" they'd never catch anything. If you goal is to catch fish, either for the fun of it or other reasons (tournament, food, etc), then the least sportsmanlike way is probably best. This means taking advantage of all the technology available (best lures, latest electronics, etc), and putting them to use where your lure/bait is most likely to be bitten by a fish. A stocked pond would be a particularly good place! Shallow rivers just downstream of breeding grounds are another popular one. Since your goal is fun (the thrill of the catch), a stocked pond seems like the ideal place.
Aside: I used to fish a lot with my dad, much like Waffle. When I was young (8-12 yrs old) I was all about the catch, even if it was a garbage fish that we threw back. Later (say 13-20 yrs), as I started to understand the significance of different fish (walleye were good eating, sheepshead weren't) I became more in tune with the hunt, though the catch was still fun! And in the last few years, I realized that while the catch was fun, what I really liked about fishing the whole time was hanging out with my dad in the peace and quiet of the lake - no TV, no phones, just a couple guys trying to catch some fish. Something to consider next time you're not catching anything
