Default Friends after high school.

I just graduated High School this past May, and about to go to Ball State University this coming week. What I want to know is do you guys keep in touch with people from your high school? Do you usually make new friends in college and forget about them? What about past girlfriends? Keep in contact? Right now I got about 4 friends that are very close to me. One is in Texas, two are going to Ball State with me, and the other is still in high school. I don't feel bad to leave people behind, I just wanna know if it is normal.

And for those guys still in college, or older than me...am I talking gibberish? Will college change me for life? High school a waste of time?

I find that MSN/ICQ is a great way to keep in touch, and even though I might not see them all the time in person, I still get updates through online convos.

Nope. The only high school friends I kept up with were the ones I went to college with. That also happens from job to job and car club to car club. Only a few from each seem group seem to stick around, but those are usually the real friends. Quality not quantity.

Well for me anyways I got a new set of friends in college and that was it. Depends on if you go to college local to your high school. I grew up in Southern Oregon and went to college in Southern Cal so I couldn't hang out with them even if I wanted to. All my buddies went to local schools and lived at home and kept up all the same hangouts and habits.

Your college friends will end up being some of your best friends for life IMHO. I only saw my high school buddies once or twice during my 4 years of undergrad but I did invite them to my wedding. When they showed up it was like they were still stuck in a timewarp of stupid high school crap and me and my college buddies had moved on. No hard feelings but I had moved on to bigger and better and they hadn't and we had no common ground anymore.

Enjoy college. Best years of your life.

I still have a couple friends from high school, a couple from college, and most of my friends are from my work. High school isn't really a waste of time, but 4-5 years from now, you'll look back and will hardly remember a thing. You'll think "wow, I was so young then"...You'll probably think about it for the first year, but after that, you'll be over it. My friends from high school all stayed basically in the same area, but after college, they all start to go there own separate ways, and if the bond is there then you'll keep in touch, but if not, then you won't. Don't worry about the friends you'll make or the friends you'll lose - take it as it comes.
