Front license plate law in Texas

I heard from a buddy today that it is no longer required you have a front plate as of September, Can anyone confirm this?

last i heard it was denied, search the north texas forums, big debate in their a few months ago

Still need the front plate if you want to comply with the law. I have gone over 10 years w/o a front plate (knocks on wood) and no issues.
