Default Gaming Industry

Hi all! I'm just curious to know if anyone else here is in the Gaming Industry. I'm currently employed by Sony Online Entertainment as a game designer. We're working on EverQuest: The Shadows of Luclin. (supposed to be released december of this year).

I don't know if anyone here has ever played EverQuest, but if you're interested in D&D style RPGs you may want to check it out. Its a fun game with lots of socialism. (www.everquest.com)

If anyone here plays or is in the gaming industry be sure to send me an e-mail. Just curious cause theres two others at my company that own an S2000. One owns one as his daily driver, the other owns one that is sort of his weekend car.

Everquest is cool for awhile. I don't play it anymore but I have kept my account active so that if I get the 'itch' I can play. I'm not in the gaming industry, but I'm a hell of a buyer Just got a PS2 last week and already have 4 games for it. If you haven't played EQ, get it, if you have played EQ and wore it out, then it's a good 'once and a while' game. Jaykkub have you ever heard of Dawn?

Hey there Jaykkub -- cool to meet a fellow industry insider and S2000 enthusiast! I'm a programmer, been doing it professionally since '96. I've worked for Westwood, Origin, and finally NCsoft (was Destination Games until the merger).

I didn't see any location info under your name (you can set is user prefs) -- are you working with the Austin or San Diego group?

Cheers,
Audball

jaykkub,

A friend of mine owns an NSX and posts on this board. He works for Naughty Dog and on the crash bandicott series of games. I know one of his co-workers just bought an S2K. They'er based in the Santa Monica area up here.

Yeah I'm currently working in the San Diego based Sony Online Entertainment division. We were formerly known as Verant Interactive, Inc. until SOE 'bought' us out. We have a few other locations, both of which are out of state (Austin and St. Louis).

My former boss (now the Assistant Producer of Planetside) drives an NSX, while the Vice President drives some type of Ferrari (very very nice looking) and also an S2000 as his daily driver (lucky guy)

I've been working in the Gaming Industry for a few years now, but only recently have I moved up to Game Design. So far I'm enjoying it...but we are now in 'crunch time' so the amount of hours spent at work is pretty crazy

Jaykkub

Btw...If you like RPGs try playing EQ (EverQuest), but be careful its been known to break up marriages, cause sleep loss and (for the youngins) cause you to skip school All during the first week of playing. hehe

Crunch time, that sucks. I can never have lunch with my friend when he's in crunch time. He hardly gets any sleep too, during that time.

I feel sorry for you.

I'm currently playing Diablo 2 Expansion.

Skitz what server did you play on?

As for crunch time...yeah it sucks. It was better when I was hourly because I was getting paid really nice. Lets just put it this way...40 hours a week is nothing with you end up getting 40 hours a week plus another 20 or so in OverTime. The last night of Crunch Time for our last expansion (The Scars of Velious) I ended up working a 24 hours + shift. Then had to go to a Christmas Party a few hours later

Its killer, but thats how the Gaming Industry can be. In the end if all works out I think its worth it.

I played on Prexus. I got up to a 26 warrior, 25 mage, and 16 Druid. Then the game just got boring. If you want some feedback on why I quit playing send me a PM and I'll help ya out, I'm all for the making of great games, that don't get boring after getting your character less than halfway to the top .
