Gateway computers / Gateway country store....
Is it just me, or do these Gateway computers (and country store)suck? They just claimed that I got a Virus, although I updated my virus thing 5 days ago..... then they wanted $130 to reload windows...... I am pretty sure I can put that little disc in my computer and hit enter to reload windows myself.
They are always smartass's about everything at the store also... as if they are brilliant and we are just bothering them.
end rant.

yeup, Dell - the way to go.
virus? and they wanted you to reload windows? gee - now that will solve the virus problem alright. shaaaa! sorry man, gateways are horrible, and their techs have gone south, much further south than Dell's outsourced and inhouse techs. they just want your money and when you leave, you'll still have the virus on there.

do you know why you reinstall windows? let me clarify the situation, because I used to be a tech on the phone for various hardware and software companies.
These are the possibilities:
1) you are being an a$$hole - automatic penalty box, we're going to reinstall windows to resolve the problem and it doesn't matter if you lose data or even if it does NOT fix the problem, this is what you are going to do or have us do. it doesn't matter how long it takes, and the more inconvenient this is for you, the happier we - technicians are.
2) you didn't answer properly when I asked you what was on your screen - you have become an a$$hole - see #1
3) and finally the dumb-tech reasoning: I have no idea what a virus is, but its supposed to be something like software, so if I reinstall software that should fix it. (which it doesn't)
4) SWAG - I have no idea WTF is going on, so its a SWAG (SomeWiseAssGuess) and hopefully that will fix your problem and/or set you on your way.
Scot - I seriously hope your case fell into #3, because those are the only three options for reinstalling windows. believe it or not, the majority of problems can be fixed without going through this painful process. I hope that the virus is gone, but depending on what virus it was will depend on how you can detect it. feel free to PM me with any q's or details regarding the virus.

Mr Ferrari - supposedly they "cleaned the harddrive" first, then reinstalled windows..... the standard answer to any question is "reinstall windows", or "sounds like a harddrive" and both of them obviously F' with everything on the computer..... They don't seem to have a clue and they give you and additude too.... My "home warranty" involved about 8 rountrips to that stupid store, which is 36 miles each roundtrip......
