Whine all you want about it, but the law is what it is. And I'm not talking about accepting coins as payment. Jordan did not elaborate on why his car was towed, but it's more than likely that it was was towed due to a parking violation or because he parked illegally.

So now just because he doesn't like the law, he gets to be a douche about paying the fine? And tow companies probably are dicks about scooping up cars, but they're still just doing their job seemingly within the limits of the law.

Just because you disagree with a law or it's not favorable to you doesn't give you grounds to be anarchistic and do whatever the flip you want.

Seriously, take some responsibility for your actions--whether you're lucid or you're being a dumbass. Your dislike of something does not absolve you of accountability.

I paid with pennies back in college. Went to the bank (fine was $50) and brought in a $50 sealed bag of pennies to the impound lot. The guy behind the counter said

"The district attorney has told us we don't have to take these because every smart ass comes in and tries this."

I said, "Well the federal government says this is legal tender for all debts public and private"

Then we argued over the fact that it was a sealed bank bag with a bank tag that read $50 on it. So he said he would except them if I counted them all. I agreed, he gives me a bucket and brings me back behind the counter. I start dropping the pennies into the bucket and yelling "ONE!"....."TWO!" ....... "THREEEEE!!!!!" and got to about 40 or so before he made me sign a slip of paper saying I would reimburse them if they found it was short of money. So I signed it "Johnny ####chops" put a couple handfuls of pennies in my pocket when he was not looking and they let me leave with my car.

Yeah, I was a dick about it. But the car was towed in front of my college house when they cleaned the street. They put up signs warning when the cleaning day was coming but some other college kid thought it would be funny to take them all down so they towed everybody in the freaking neighborhood. $50 in pennies is probably about 40 pounds.

What douchebags. The guy's car got towed because he parked it illegally (most likely), and he's pissed that the law was enforced and his car got towed. Lets posit that he parked in front of a disabled ramp, or in front of a fire hydrant when he was going into the club the night before. He gets towed and decides to take it out on the poor cashier who is just doing a job, something it doesn't appear these high-school rednecks would know about. Talk about a waste of police resources and productivity. I'm disgusted.

You can do that, but it almost guarantees you will get an IRS audit on your taxes that year. Any large cash transactions (it used to be $10,000 or more but I think has been lowered) has to be reported by law to the IRS. They then flag your SS# for an audit.

A local Caddy dealer got in big trouble for not reporting all the drug dealers they sold caddies to for cash about ten years ago.

I hate those companies--the ones that work for private lots.

If you get a fine for parking in a handicap zone or not putting money in the meter that's one thing. That's perfectly reasonable, and it's clear you broke the law and ran the risk. Those aren't the ones that irritate me.

I think I've gotten two parking tickets/whatever in my life, both from dipshits on private property:

Ticket:
One time I got a ticket for parking on the line. Not over the line, not double parked, but parked ON the line. There wasn't another spot on that side. $50 to the tow company for 'services'.

Boot:
A few years ago I got a boot on my car for parking near my buddy's apartment complex. It was late at night, I parked near the entry. The company had put up a white sign with small text about 5 spots away from my parking stall (and away from the entry). It was night and I walked directly out to my friend's apartment, so I never went nearer or saw it. I found out an hour later it was a boot warning. They could have put the signs at the entry and exit, used bigger text (I had to park in front of it to read it, and I'm 20/20), or at least said TOW in big letters SOMEWHERE. Had I known, I would have simply parked elsewhere.

When I was talking with the guy, he described his business model and how his company relied on booting ignorant parkers because it was the best way to make money in their business and that town. They don't charge the parking lot owner for the lot patrols (called "security services"), so they made 100% of their money and profits from boot/tow fees.

So if nobody sees the sign, the boot company makes the most money, plain and simple. Terrible business model.

Which reminds me of the legendary boot thread:

^ an apartment complex here is famous for both huge parties and towing residents who, unable to find a spot as they are packed with party goers, park on the grass. they start towing at 7;30 friday/sat/sun morning, before anyone gets up to move their car.
