Getting pulled over
I was pulled over last night taking my wife home from a movie. I was going 76 in a 60, but the 60 zone just started as I was on an extended offramp exiting the interstate. During the day traffic goes 80-85 up and down the interstate in that area. At first I was surprised I was pulled over--then I realized it was 12:30 friday night, not afternoon traffic. I got lucky this time; he only gave me a warning and let me go.
But what surprised me is this: usually when I get pulled over, I'm doing *just* over the speed of traffic. When I'm going 90-95 down an empty stretch of interstate, I never seem to get in trouble.
I know 95% of it is just a matter of timing, especially in this case. But I find that when I'm either driving obediently OR at 9/10ths on emptier roads I don't get into any trouble. I get into trouble when I'm going *just* faster than traffic and sticking out my nose.
Anybody else notice the same thing?

50 in a 35 in La Crescenta by Glendale PD on a bike last week. The cop showed me his laser gun. It got me from 562 feet away. That's almost two football fields. My Passport 9500i didn't pick it up. He said the new laser guns have much greater range. He said "I didn't know you were speeding from that distance. I just saw a sports car with the top down and figured you were a good bet."

happened to me yesterday. 55 in a 40 speeding ticket...funny thing is that's about the only time i've done more than 10 over on a non-highway road since i've been back in the country (2 weeks). i'm leaving tomorrow and won't be driving for another year. talk about bad luck!

just got pulled last weekend on the toll road, did 85 in a 70. Cop let me off with a warning. everyone was going about 80 in the pass lane, but i got hit in an open stretch.
it was a chick cop too :-)
