Getting a Treadmill. Any advice?
with the falling temps and the expanding waistline, i'll be getting a treadmill to work off the excess calories.
since this will be my first treadmill purchase, what features should i look for?
any brands to stay away from?
what have been your experiences?
and finally and recommendations for one in the sub $500 price range?
TIA

have to say, never understood treadmills...
if its cold, put on a few more layers and head outside!
if its wet, put on wetgear.
at least you are thinking of running- thats the first step...
and if you can find others who run to run with, thats the best way to keep up the running (i know when its cold outside and the alarm goes off that they will be waiting, so i gotta get up and out there)

Id say treadmills suck. Get an eliptical trainer, or a road/mountain bike and trainer so that while it's cold you can use the trainer and then you have a bike when it's warm. Like the other's said, treadmills I've seen are really good for hanging clothes on, taking up alot of space, being a pain to move, collecting dust.
Our building has an electric powered treadmill in the gym and it's great. Effortless to walk on when compared to human powered treadmill (which I dislike using).
I wouldn't use anything other than a powered treadmill.

I used many, and run a lot, so here is my .02
First of all how old are you? If not 15, then you HAVE to get a treadmill with springs, or else your knees will hate you for it. Ive used many and would recommend a Nordictrak. They are of great quality, great motors, go faster than most treadmills. Their service is fantastic as well. They are pricy, and you might be able to get another brand for half the price, but in reality, its something you want to buy once, and have years of trouble free service.
Just for records, I have the 4300R and love it!
