After I hit the range this weekend and plop the stock barrel/spring combo in I will know for sure if it was the barrel or the new sights.

I ventured to the range this weekend with a partner who has shot the gun in the past.
His comment was "wow, that is an amazing difference."
The groupings tighten up considerably with the KKM barrel -- to the point where with practice a 100 at 15 yards is not out of the question.
In fact while we were zeroing in the .22 for squirrel patrol we joked that I had a better chance under 25 yards of hitting them with the .40.
In my view the upgrade is well worth it. Your results may vary -- I could in fact just be very lucky.
Yes, KKM (and others) make drop in replacements for other calibers (as well as conversion barrels). Check out glocktalk.com for comments from people with more knowledge than me. There are some that ask you to send the gun in for a gunsmith fitting -- probably even better results.

In my experience so far -- yes.

Regardless, the KKM can shoot lead bullets - - the stock can -- but should not.

Steve C,
Quick question for you. How's the slide-to-frame play and barrel lock-up before vs. after the KKM barrel replacement, i.e., Looser or tighter ? If there aren't any noticeable play/looseness then I'd venture to say that the aftermarket barrel itself makes all the difference in improved accuracy.
Thanks.
