Godaddy.com and other registry sites
So the other day, thursday i believe, my sister and i were thinking about names for her new business. we finally came up with one that we might like, and wanted to see if it is available. I looked by typing it in the address bar and it came up empty. She actually went to godaddy.com and entered it in and it said it was available.
Today, we wanted to go register the name, and to our surprise, someone took it yesterday.
So do you think if you type in a name, and don't purchase it, someone they notify brokers and tell them to buy it?
The name was bought by some chinese company registered out of the bahamas... sucks balls.....
so could it have been my internet provider sending someone the information or chances are, it was godaddy? i mean, what are the chances of us doing a search thursday, and someone comes up with the vary name 2 days later??

are you sensitive to conspiracy theories, did you hide in your basement for >3weeks after 911
did you look them up on whois.net what was the dates??
usually more expensive but did you try the same name but other country specific extensions or some international extensions like .biz??
godaddy is a functional place to shop but there are others, networksolutions.com for example.

You are actually making a good point here because I have wondered the same thing. I run a web hosting company and often deal with third-party domain registrars and who knows how the manage and track their data. It would make sense to snatch up popular domain names to make more money.
I have seen the same thing and Godaddy isn't the only one doing the bad deed.
Another thing is that when you are waiting for a name to expire so that you can get it, GoDaddy doesn't have the up to the minute/day/week/month info. You need to go direct.

I imagine godaddy isn't releasing the information. Search results on registrar sites is not exactly private data, just like google results aren't. Hell, if you mis type or enter a random URL and get a unresolved hostname error, there's a chance it will be owned by a squatter in a day or two.
