User identifiers and passwords enabling the downloads may be provided on a per-download basis or on a subscription basis.

The link is not set up right and is not working. I even tried cutting and pasting the whole thing in a browser window.

I can't believe that someone was able to patent this. Does this mean that if you provide software using the asp model, you need to pay whoever filed this patent???

I think that seems to be the gist of what is stated in that paragraph... and if that is the case, there are a lot of businesses that will be screwed out of revenues and one rich mother-f*cker taking royalties.

HOWEVER, I have some serious doubts of this being able to hold up in a legal environment. It's way too generic - software isn't the same across the board. Almost like someone patenting the automobile...which would be a method of transport, providing 4 wheels, an engine, etc...
