Default going to china Shanghai and Beijing

well, a good friend of mine was transfered to shanghai a few months ago and i am going to visit him for 2 weeks leaving jan 10th. i have never been and i am looking for advice on where to go and what to see aside from the regular tourist stuff, if anyone has been (beijing or shanghai primarly, im not going to HK) Please include info or tips to help me. My friend speaks fluent mandarin, but has never traveled outside shanghai where he works, i will be staying in shanghai and then spend a week or so in beijing. i will be with my friend the whole time so i have no language barrier which will be very helpful. any tips you have would be of great use. Im looking for stuff people have done that was maybe outside the ordinary, or often passed up. thanks
CHRIS.

not too much nature stuff around those cities, but further inland lies untold wonders.

depends on what you want to do. go to a happening bar, pick up a pretty chinese girl that speaks english so she can show you around. plenty of them prefers anyone from outside of china.

ive been there 6 times . to shanghai that is. a word of advice is to eat at a crappy looking place. they usually have the BEST food. the crappier they look, the better. and no im not kidding.

the massage parlors are REALLY REALLY nice since theyre so very cheap. same with the hair salons. the bathing houses are also a nice place to relax too but only the higher class ones. the lower class ones have dirty water :/

hope you enjoy your trip there and take pics!

Summer palace, Forbidden City, Great Wall of China, Jade City. Its best if you have a tour guide to bring you places, they ususally get stuff alot cheaper. other than that, have fun! its a great place to visit
