That just made me crack up in the library. I've had two emachines to date, and they have both failed.

But green is here to stay. It won't be green anymore in the future and will just be normal.

I think it's here to stay. I think it's a good thing. Even if global warming is a hoax, so much waste is not good.
I agree.

I bought the compact flourescents for the whole house. Yeah they take a couple seconds to get bright but use less than a third of the energy and in four years of converting the house not one has burned out. And now I get them for free because the wife lobby's for an electric utility.

But we have entered a phase where companies have begun to market green. Energy efficient appliances with enregy star ratings, and green friendly this. Now people have come to expect it and I think companies will find if they do not at least make an effort to have a product that is not only of high quality and fair price, but "green" as well, then people will go elsewhere.

But no, I don't believe this will translate to things like supercars. But in sporty cars for the every day person, if Toyota does that Hybrid sports concept, or Honda does the CRZ and makes green sporty and fun, then its a whole new ballgame.

I've started converting to LED light bulbs. WAL*MART carries them.

1.5W = 40W of traditional incandescent light output.

Living in one of the most liberal cities in the midwest, I've done absolutely nothing. Is this going green just another fad that will pass in another 6 months, or is it here to stay?
I hope it's not a fad. But besides that, you comment about the city you live in got me wondering - is the "green movement" considered conservative or liberal? I mean, literally by definition, conservation is a conservative act, right? Or is the conservative part about not wanting to try any new things, including being conservative about resources? I'm so confused.

I hope it is here to stay. I do my part and believe it is worth something despite the cycle of the earths climate or global warming.

Do we really need a "reason of fear" to do something benificial to our living environment and society? Whay can people live in moderation?

LED lighting is soooo cold. It lacks the warmth of incandescent and it makes spaces at home feel uncomfortable to me. I started getting worried about the disappearance of incandescent bulbs so I went out and bought some cases of them :-)

The other thing is, LED and fluorescent bulbs don't work with the 8 million dimmer switches and X-10 dimmer modules that I use for my lighting.

That's not always the case Mikey, the lights I sell can go from 2700K ( the same as incandesent up to 6300K which is cold. I even have fixtures that can sweep up and down, and they work with control systems. Granted these are more commercial fixtures then residential, LED's are coming a long way.

The problem, for me, and consumers, is there is so much chinese junk out there, that they give LED's a bad name.
