whats a good digital camera that doesn't cost over 600.

Casio EX-Z750. I am severely impressed with mine. It even does video! It's the size of a deck of cards man.

this thread may help.

i would recmond the cannon A75. it is cheap and has alot of manual functions. I dont think u can go wrong with a cannon or nikon.

Your price point is just a hair below a Nikon D50 kit from a mail order outfit. That's the lowest entry point for a dSLR. If you want a dSLR I'd say pass on the D50 kit lenses and swap in the D70's kit lens instead for a couple hundred more dollars. That lens is an outstanding performer.

Not everyone needs or wants a dSLR though. Check out Steves-digicams.com or dpreview.com for the latest digicam reviews and recommendations.
