Partial Hijack Warning!!!!

Damn, I wish my folks had provided all that mess for me when I was in college. They didn't even sudsidize my beater Chevy S-10 (My first 'S')

As to advice, I agree with the above, waitstaff (at a real restaurant, not a crappy franchise like TGIF) or bartending. TGIF is good for the second option if you have no experience bartending, I understand they train.

Hey guys,

Soon I will be attending college in the pittsburgh PA area. (Pittsburgh Technical Institute) and starting July 25th.

I got an apartment at Chestnut Ridge apartments(very nice) and ill be living with my Gf.

Deal is.. Shes fresh out of cosmetology school and will be getting a job come july 10th or so.

The rents pay for my S2k, all the expenses such as tires, covered garage, insurance and any maintence etc. I will be using a 98 Jeep grand cherokee as a daily driver though.

I need a job to pay the rent, gas, utilities, groceries, Misc stuff that comes up.. also somethings that i havent listed that i forgot about..

I need to know what companies are good to work for when in college????

I looked at UPS mainly which pays 9.50 with about 20 hours a week and only 4-5 hours a day.

I need a job that will pay decently well - 6.50 at least! - and will work around me..

My school schedule is 7:30 am - 12:30 PM

Do you guys know anybody in Pittsburgh or any companies that you worked for while in college that could really help me out???

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!! I will be able to start JULY 1st or end of June!! Im 17 and experienced in retail!
For a guy - bartender by night, part time internship, thats what I did - made mad loot

for a chick - stripper, for sure.

My friend's daughter worked as a waitress at a nice restaurant in Washington Crossing making $250/night on weekends. She worked hard, but the higher the tab, the higher the tip.

Tips at a restaurant are where it's at, although from experience if you're not female, you will get less tips. Bartending at a club would probably be better. Also you won't have to wait 2 weeks to get a paycheck. You walk away every work day with money in your pocket.

the best advice is; and i know its tough to look that far into the future, but look for a company you want to work for......some companies will hire you at entry level and you will have those 3-4 years ahead of the college grad that just starts out....hence you will probably move up faster and have a better clue of whats going on.....

oh yeah i just graduated from college last summer, had to take summer classes to finish...looked for a job for 4 months, found a half decent first job, but there are people there that basically worked there while in school and had an easier time adjusting to whats going on...i'm fine now and i'm sure you will be, but either way at the time you are that much ahead.....

also most companies like to promote within and you will have an easier time getting in good with the bosses....

you might not get paid as much as waiter or landscaper, but you are getting business experience....and unless you want to be a professional landscaper/waiter, there's no future.....

trust me i had a bullshiet job while i was in school...worked at a car wash....it paid well surprisingly, but there was no future and when i was done school, i had no internship or experience....

if you are just starting school, i think you should hold off on a job for the first semester or maybe year, to get adjusted, but definitly start looking for something in your future field, or something that will look good on a resume

Well.. seeing how my school has internships and will already place me into a job, i guess im going to have to go for a job as a bartender or waiter at a higher class restaurant..

I think im going to try to get in at a TGI fridays as a bartender, or somewhere else thatll train me.

I worked at a Liquor store while I went to school. It was great, I would have had to wait tables to make the same amount of cash. I made about 10 bucks an hour and the sweetest thing since it was a liquor store, always out by 9:15 (closed at 9) and Never had to work a sunday (closed on sundays) So even when I had to work on friday nights and saturdays, I could still join in the party pretty early. Its better then busting your a$$ every friday and saturday night till 2-3am to make the best cash. Its perfect for a college student. Laws where you are might be different, but the hours should be some what similar.

Oh yeah, I made friends with a lot of the wild party animals, there wasnt a thursday-saturday night that I got off that I didnt get invited to at least 5 wild parties, or knew which were the good ones to crash.....lol
