Get the Blackberry Bold. It's more worthwhile

Keep in mind that the G1 is made by HTC, not Google.
Google just makes the Android OS for the phone. It will start showing up on other devices sooner or later. It's also a first-run product so expect to deal with lots of growing pains.

That said, the phone is ugly, but the OS does look nice.

I love the iPhone, and Android looks promising, but the G1 isn't the phone to get imo. If you want it all your best bet is the iPhone these days.

oh ok. I have t-mobile and found that the iphones can now be unlocked and jailbroken to use with t-mobile. But can they still be updated as each firmware comes out? Do they need to be jailbroken each time a new firmware comes out? I believe 2.2 is the most recent, but alot of these jailbroken ones have 2.1

Its a hassle to deal with unlocking and then upgrading to new firmware each time. Don't get the iphone if you are committed to tmobile.

I have a 3G iPhone and it's been pretty smokin', but there are features like picture messaging it does not have, and likely won't for some time. Now, you can snap a pic and email it, but that's a bit of a workaround for the lack of pic messaging. Most everything else it seems to do great though, but Safari does crash quite a bit, so it can't handle heavy sites much.

It's been a long time since I've been a real tech head, so I have no idea how easy or hard it is to unlock an iPhone and use it on other networks. Just know that Jobs will make sure he does whatever he can to put roadblocks in your way every time a new firmware comes out. The Bold I hear is the sh!t these days though, for all around capability. Never messed with it though.

Don't confuse jailbreaking with unlocking it. Jailbreaking an iphone just allows you to run whatever software you want, NOT let you use it on t-mobile. I don't think anybody has unlocked the iphone 3g, but the iphone 3g won't run in 3g on t-mobile since they use different frequencies so your best bet if you want to use an iphone on t-mobile is to buy a first generation iphone used from somebody and then unlock it.

Regarding the jailbreaking, they have been pretty good about jailbreaking the new firmware very quickly after apple releases it.
