Default GoPro External Mic Mod

ok so after buying my GoPro i realized the mic sucked so i did my research. On the GoPro bus #14 and #15 is the left and right output for the microphone. so i then found out that the ipod is the same so grabbed one of my ipod cords laying around and sure enough it plugged right into the GoPro. so i then bought a ipod cable to 3.5mm headphone jack wire, a cheap external mic, female to female adapter, and a steroe to mono adapter incase the sound only comes out one speaker i can use the stereo to mono to have it come out of both speakers. anyways here is pics of what i did and also of what i bought. have not tested it yet though, i will as soon as i get everything together. I used a dremel tool and drill bit to make the opening on the back of the cover, and i used the non profit door because i didnt want to ruin the waterproof one.

Looks like a fantastic idea... but my iPod connector does not fit in the GoPro?
