I've worked my ass off for the past couple years, sold my previous car nearly a year ago and went without a car for that year and now have the money to buy the car outright. I'm very disciplined with my money compared to my friends though. I doubt many people would do what I've done.

I don't spend much on my car, but I do save 20% of my gross income each year.

I could have a really fast S2000 if I didn't, that's for sure.

If I didn't have mortgage payments, I'd have a supercharger and a second race-stripped AP1 by now.

I'm disciplined with my money, don't buy new cars which cost >=30% my annul gross income. This way I feel happy with what I drive without bankrupting my future.

You apparently haven't read the new bankruptcy laws. Even if you did go seven you very well might have to surrender the car.

I don't use my credit card for things I can't afford to buy outright. I use it for convenience. I pay the balance off each month.

I don't have a lot of credit in the US - I've only been here for 17 months and most lenders are not interested in giving me a lot of credit up front. I don't need it, though, so who cares?

Back in Canada, I've got a ton of it. When I was in school there, I had to use it, but I haven't used it since.

Right now, I make less than $70K a year so I don't think I've got what most consider a "high paying job".

Oh yeah - my wife wouldn't allow me to blow a few grand on my car for something that wasn't truly needed (for now, at least). I have to get her a dream home (or something remotely similar) before I buy a dream car.
