Got a new Beater car!
Well I retired my 1985 Mecury Topaz GS daily driver (sold it actually for $200.00) and picked up a 1993 Honda Civic DX with 85000 miles for $768.00 (from my Sister)
Already have my buddy getting me a B20 for it and I have Neuspeed Race springs sitting in the garage for it (will go on as soon ad I get some shocks)
I am stoked or is it stooked?

great beater! I was trying to get a 94 VX with a broken timing belt to make a hybrid, but...... she decided to get it fixed. I told her once it was fixed, i was not interested. costing $1200 to fix. I offered $1500 for the unfixed car.
show us some pics when it is done.

How much does it cost to make a hybrid? My mom has a '91 CRX Si she hasn't driven in months. The engine burns a quart of oil every 300 miles or so and the hood's bent up some, but other than that it's in great condition. I've been thinking of buying it off of her and making it my beater.
Elistan - You can do one of two things.
1. Find an engine at a junk yard (probably the cheaper option). But, you have to remember to get all the parts necessary (engine, tranny, computer, harness, etc).
2. Go to a place that specializes in hybrid transplants. I am also thinking about building up a civic, so I did some research and ran into this web site. From what I've heard, they are a little expensive, but they provide absolutely everything you will need for the change, and they provide reliable parts (never know what you get at a junk yard).

Good luck.

why would you put a B20 in a civic? it's torquey but has no top end. unless you but a B16 or B18C1 or C5 head
you can get a cheap j-spec B16A from shops like http://www.jdmhondaparts.com or sohfast (although Jerome Soh has had legal trouble recently for selling stolen motors).
here's a link to a "CR-VTEC" eg civic: http://tiiite.b16a.com/jay.htm
here's one of the best sources for hybrid info: http://www.hybrid.honda-perf.org/index.html

I was going to try (some more) to find a decent broken 92-95 civic cx or vx for cheap. I am guessing by the time you stick a decent GSR or SI engine in w/ trans and some kind of limited slip (it will spin), it would be $3k installed.?
Maybe i am dreaming.? I think the Si engines are way way easier and a decent amount cheaper than the GSR engines. that little bit of extra torque would be nice though.

the B16A and B18C1 install with the same level of difficulty - - all of the B-Series motors swap (somewhat) easily into the EG chassis Civics. but the B16A has been available since '89 in Japan, making them much much easier to find and cheaper than B18C1's.
