Default Gotta love Southern Illinois weather

Im currently in college at Southern Illinois University. There are a few things that this place is known for: crazy parties, halloween riots, natural beauty and topography, fledgling sports teams...blah blah blah. That was most of the stuff i heard about before i came here. By now, i thought i had experienced them all in my 4 years here. Except one. I always heard about the terrible ice storms we get. We had a few minor ones before, but i never thought they were all that bad. I figured since i was from around Chicago and most of my friends were from central Illinois, they just hadnt seen the same kinds of weather as me. Well I guess i was wrong. Ive never seen anything like this before. The pictures dont quite do justice. And i appologize, theyre from a camera phone...

There wasnt a single spot on the car that wasnt covered in 1cm of ice

You can kind of see the thickness of it here on my roommates jeep. It took 3 of us about 45 minutes to get that thing de-iced and drivable.

Trees were falling everywhere. One branch damn near fell on my car, but it was saved by power lines. This one was the biggest by far!

Same tree. This is what it landed on, our neighbors house. It must have been about 40 feet tall. All the extra weight of the frozen ice on the boughs was enough to topple it over. It didnt so much snap as it did uproot. Pretty amazing stuff! Im just glad our house got out unscathed.

I can't imagine that's very good for the car.
