Default GPS works how?

So if i get a handheld GPS unit, it will tell me my top speed in my car because it is RE-"positioning" itself several times per second and will know that I am "repositioning" at a rate of 150+ mph?

It doesn't even have to be mounted anywhere...right.?

Just checking.... saw another thread which showed 144 mph on speedo but only 135 gps.??? that is a HUGE speedo error.

thanks...Scot

It depends on the handheld unit your talking about.

Most 12 channel GPS's are able to give a very accurate speed readout, check the owners manual to see what the velocity specs. say. An older handheld GPS may not have a chip capable of regisiter over 99mph (older "hiker" models for example).

No, the GPS doesn't have to be mounted, it's measuring the velocity of the GPS unit (which should be the same as the car!). Also, the DOD stopped dithering the signal last October you shouldn't have any SA errors.

Great to see another Alaskan Stook owner,

That is some sophisticated hard and soft ware just to measure an accurate speed output. I'm impressed, but I'm not a professional to require such detailed recordings. Definitely good for those of you out there who are heavy car tuners.
