Default Grades = $?

Similar to S2kAli's thread, I have been debating offering my Tenants a deal..... My houses are all in the City (no slums, they do have to pass a decent inspection)....and they all have low income families (mostly single mom's).....

Anyway... i was thinking of offering $25 of Toys R US $ for every kid for every marking period that they get all A's and B's.? Kind of like McDonalds offers a free cheeseburger.

Right now the most i could be out if all kids got it for all 4 marking periods would be about $1200 or so.......

Any opinions? It seems like the city residents need some incentive to get the hell out of there!

I think it's a good idea to reward the kids... it's a little motivation to get them to work for something.

I think it's a great idea Scot, I think as we get older, we start to get jaded. Just think of how a young kid, not burdened by all the crap in the world will enjoy such a gesture. I gotta figure they will remember that for a long time, the benifits will long outlast the given toy.

Wait isn't this like that really crappy movie pay it forward?

Movie sucked, the theory is excellent!

I'm kidding of course

Just you make sure that you structure it in such a way that you get a deduction.

However, I do agree with this take on the situation

I think this is a terrific idea and like most acts of generousity, I believe you'll get more than you give. In addition to the satisfaction of doing a decent thing, you'll be putting a human face on the landlord. I'll bet you'll save everything you spend in reduced property damage.

You won't be able to take a charitable deduction for this but I don't see why it wouldn't be a business expense.

O.K., let's say your plan works. With the success you foster it won't be too long before you don't have any more tenants. Did you see the movie Pay it Forward?
