Leave Ridge Racer and Need for Speed for the drift crowd. Turning GT into a drift games is a bad move. They will alienate their core buyers.

They just added drift. I hate the drift part so I'm just playing the time trial mode and no drifting for me. As long as they keep it separate, it's just another feature. I can't see them switching the whole game over to it.

Are you guys serious that there is a drift mode? Is it a completely different feeling like the NFS games, or are you supposedly to drift the car based on different car settings? I can see where drift mode comes into play with different tires and such. Gran Turismo 1 did have a "standard" and "drift" mode in arcade mode. Maybe they've decided to bring it back. For those that have GTHD, tell me!

Just played it, sweet. The drift thing isn't unlocked yet for me.

The car doesn't drive any different in drift mode unless you change the setup. You just have a different goal in drift mode. You build up points in each corner based on how well you drift and if you don't go off the road or hit anything. Time isn't what counts, it's how many points you accumulate. It's a totally different mode so it doesn't have any effect on the rest of the game so it doesn't bother me much. I suck at it so I don't think I'll be playing that mode much.

yes, I will admit that even the drift part is more of a simulation than other games. If you do not understand how to setup a car to make it drift, then I won't drift. You can choose different tires for front and back to get the right setup.

You just don't see nascars and lemans drifting around the track, so I just wished they kept gt to true racing heritage. It's not like they would've had any trouble selling the game without it.

developer gives some insight on the next gen system

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....32&page=3&pp=30

The Xbox 360 has done well and will continue to do well partly because it's a dream to develop for, and partly because it has more powerfull hardware overall. I earn my living as a graphics video game programmer as well as optimization/cpu use for both Xbox 360 and PS3. The PS3 is an absolute nightmare to dev for, no one wants to work on it. Worse yet, it's video hardware is crap compared to the 360's. Feed the same 3d scene to the PS3 and the 360, and the 360 will render it much faster *everytime*. This is fact. Don't think so? Swing by our office and help us out. Our 360 product averages 45-60fps easily, we're struggling to get the PS3 to hit 30-45fps.

The japanese market will be all PS3 and Wii, no american console will sell there. But the Japanese market is fairly small compared to the American, European and other markets so the loss in Japan is not as significant as people make it out.

PS3 exclusives are dropping like flies. I can't give specifics due to NDA's, but companies are realizing that they can make a better looking game on 360 due to its better video hardware, and more importantly that the 360 will have a sizeable market share this time around. The loss of exclusives is very significant, because a game developped to run on both 360/PS3 will most likely run better on the 360 because companies dont have the time and budget to get the PS3 up to speed with all the tricks it needs.

Your comment about ''360 rushing it' is hilarious. Have you even used both 360/PS3 extensively? The 360 is a polished product, the user experience is excellent from its interface, wireless controls, to its games. and Live service. The PS3 was shipped as a beta product. Simply put, it's not ready but they had no choice but to ship it. Take some time and use both, the difference is astounding. They will be patching the PS3 for sometime to come, and it's online service is years behind the 360's. Here's a very simple example. I can turn on the 360 from the wireless controller, start downloading a demo, play a game and let the download continue in the background, chat with a friend, then turn off the 360 with the controller. Can any of this be done with the PS3?

It's not all negative though. Those that think the PS3 will fail are wrong. It will sell millions, the strength of the Playstation brand is enormous and it's momentum too strong. But their market domininance will be gone. PS3/360 will probably have similar market shares this time around with Wii being the wildcard.

The GTHD pics look nice, but there is nothing special in them. As I stated in a different thread, the mountains are a flat 2d backdrop, the trees are intersecting quads, all the polygons in that scene are in the car. Not a big deal, there is nothing there that the 360 can't do. The only difference is that their devs have to struggle to get the PS3 to do it which is partly why you'll have to wait ages before it's done

I could turn on/off my ps3 right out of the box. for the record, I'm not biased. I own an xbox and chose it over the ps2. One of my main reason to buy a ps3 is blue ray. It's true that you can't let a download continue while you're playing a game, but that's a hardware issue I suppose.

The graphics so far look better on the 360 overall, but I'm not sure I like the fact that everything looks darker in the 360. The solid dark colors seem more animated to me. Again, I'm not trying to defend the ps3; if ps3 ends up sucking along with blue ray, I'll buy a 360.

If the 360 is so hot, then what's the PS3's cell processor all about? I thought it was supposed to be crazy.

One thing I hate about all the racing games right now is that they are all "drift" oriented. I can't believe Gran Turismo went that route too. Drifting was new and cool for me like 10 years ago, around the time when the first Ridge Racer came out. I think drifting in a video game could be fun, as I'm a fan of RR7 on ps3. I just didn't hope for Gran Turismo to be all about drifting. to make it worse, the opening video has cars drifting, when they should be showing fast cars pushing maximum G's through turns.
Damn is that a fact. I traded in PGR 3 becuase I just HATED the Kudos system. You get points for finding the slow way around the track.

Stupid.
