Um, where did his legs go? Seriously, I heard they packed them in ice and tried to reattach them in hospital (obviously without success). I'm surprised he didn't bleed to death with both femoral arteries ripped wide open. According to my doctor brother he would have had less than 1 minute to live before they tourniqueted both limbs. That's some seriously impressive emergency medical work. They saved his life - no question about it whatsoever.

I understood that both legs were amputated subsequent to the crash, rather than by the crash, which mangled them beyond any hope of recovery.
