Guess what competitor I saw today... (pics)

Headed down to the Sony Metreon to see "Traffic" and spied this driving the opposite way and parking. Unfortunately after a few bad pics and a couple good ones, my camera's battery died and he eventually left by the time I parked my car and came back.

Looks like the Stook will be getting some competition in the near future once MG brings it's new car here. Anyone have word on the engine? the 17" rims and dual exhausts make me wonder...

It is a MGF with a VVC engine(~140hp) that is no match of our S2000, don't worry, you can blow away that MGF in 4th gear in 3000rpm.

If they are still using LUCAS for their electricals we have NOTHING to worry about (ROFLOL).

Heh heh... I had a '67 Austin Healey Sprite a few years back, and the electrical system in that car was headache after headache!

You know why the British drink their beer warm? Because their refrigerators are made by Lucas!

I think you have to have owned a British car to truly appreciate that joke...

Or have just drunk British beer! Just finished a Boddingtons and feeling a little whingey

Just before I got my S I thought, "Maybe I'm getting a bit over my head with this Honda thing. I could pick up an MGF tomorrow, and pocket the change. Hell, I could even sell my spot on the waiting list for $5K". So I dropped into MG Garage (it's a car yard and a restaurant) and took an MGF for a spin. Nice car, fairly civilised, handles or-right. But it just really failed to excite. You've got a 1.8L Renault (if I remember correctly) engine behind you. The VVC was unimpressive. I believe it stands for either Variable Valve Control, or Very Very Complicated.

What really got me was the finish. For one thing the rear view mirror vibrated with the engine and the shimmering reflection constantly drew your attention.

The fake wood panelling still isn't wood, is it! So what's the point?

After my drive I had a really nice brunch of corn fritters with salsa dressing confident that I had made the right decision in waiting for my S.

MG Garage: I can recommend the food, but not the cars (unless you notice the Diablo or Astons in the back).

Ah, nothing like Lucas "Prince of Darkness" jokes to make the brit car owners come out of the woodwork.

That being said I loved my last car, a 1970 Australian Morris Cooper S that I imported. 1380cc worth of go-kart power... sad to see it go.

Loki, what did you think of the Traffic? We saw Traffic last nite too. We thought it was a little lengthy and slow. However the casts are OK. BTW, Catherine Zeto Jones is not looking her best since she is 6 months pregnant when shooting Traffic. We also saw Family Man and it was very funny and good.

I seem to remember the old Sprites/Austin Healeys had Smiths gauges, which weren't any better than Lucas. You'd think these electrics would be less impervious to moisture, coming fom a country with such a high average rainfall.

Not to mention the preponderance of SUV's. You got a lot a off-road tracks around those parts.

We get a lot of SUV's in Mosman too, on account of all the speed humps me thinks.
