If you're looking for something with that Strat/Tele single-coil sound, but can't stand Fender necks, I'd try a Hagstrom F-300.*
*Make sure you get it set up at, or after you buy it. It's a must on Hags.

I like gibsons to, they are great guitars, I just for whatever reason prefer strats. Also, les pauls are heavy! I'm not a weak guy, but my back gets to me after standing and playing a few songs with my strat so I can't imagine standing and playing a les paul for an hour.
Most of my childhood guitar heroes played them (SRV, Hendrix, Clapton even EVH played a Kramer which was a strat copy), so thats probably why I liked them as a kid and started playing them.

i have a mexi strat (first guitar) and an sg. love them both!
re: angelus, yep still have fun playing. although the main reason why i hadn't progressed is not due to no formal training, it's just that when college and work hit, i barely picked up my guitar anymore. and when i did play, it was just stuff i already knew.
starting to pick it up again. hopefully i can finally learn how to rake! also, do any of you use powertab? such a good program.

very hard skill to master, but so absolutely wonderful once you can do it.

I have been using Guitar guide almost a year now, and I must say it has increased my knowledge and abilities 10 fold. What a wonderful tool for anyone with the desire to play better. On a side note, because of the theory and other musical tips, my piano playing has also improved, now that is getting your money's worth and more!!!"
