boldly aggressive or courageous: a ballsy gal who isn't afraid of anyone


Gutsy:
having a great deal of courage or nerve: a gutsy lampooner of the administration.

They both denote being daring or courageous. Maybe I'm not as a genius as some of you, but I still see a very very minute difference and still think they are interchangeable. Being ballsy doesn't necessarily connote a sense of sexuality or sex.

You may have misunderstood the joke. It was a jest interpretation of the two words that normally would work as synonyms, where as it seems you're understanding it to be literal and real world definitions.
