Actually he hates running... He used to be a 280 pound power lifter and would rarely run at all. After he lost a few friends in Afghanistan he decided to do "something hard" to raise money so that the children of Special Ops soldiers/operators that have died can go to college. So he started running Ultramarathons. Within the first 2 1/2 months of training he lost over 100 pounds. In his training/running he has broken bones, had stress fractures, shin splints, kidney failure, and the list goes on and on... He is one tough dude.

I'm on the periphery of a group of friends who I call "the running crowd." They regularly do marathons, triathlons, 100-mile trail runs, etc. And for many of them, they really do seem to "get off on this stuff."

that guy is a beast

i don't "get off on it" by any means, but i never feel better than i do when i'm running or have just finished a run. kinda cheesy, but running makes me feel alive. i'll stick with about 3.5 a day for now though...
