due to the potential for break in with a convertable I don't think I will keep a hand gun in this car. What about the rest of you?

Here come the flames I'm sure.

Is having a gun a sign of mellowness?

Talking about guns with americans is like trying to persuade your cat that bringing dead birds every morning on your carpet is bad.

The cat just doesn't understand why you dismiss the object of his pride...

Well I'd side with Jay on this one. This topic has gun control written all over it. Jay was just doing is interpretation of the Brady bill

Is it too tacky to install a gun rack behind the roll over head rests?

I don't remember the URL, but I saw a picture of a Boxster with a gunrack; I'm sure it was a gag. (DUH)

To answer the original question, I think the trunk is as secure as an average car if you lock the center compartment. A pro can open your car door in seconds, hard top or not and most cars have a trunk release inside. At least with our cars most thieves may not know where to find it. I would be less comfortable with leaving a gun in the passenger compartment esp. as this may not be legal in some jurisdictions. JMHO
