I used to own a home in the landing pattern for NAS Oceana in Va Beach, VA. Because they held all of the airshows there, I have heard nearly every conceivable military aircraft go directly overhead while cooking dinner, laying in bed, showering, watching TV, etc. There is NO escape when one of the louder ones goes blistering by overhead, sometimes being cocky and deliberately coming in too low. I ended up putting that tacky yellow poster-hanging Play Doh stuff behind all of the framed art in the house to keep the frames from being shaken crooked all the time.

There was a sonic boom in '95 or early '96 off the coast of NC. The pilots were entirely too close to shore as well as to the water, and even 100 miles away, the boom was so loud that many people (myself included) thought a bomb had gone off somewhere or a plane had crashed at the base. Fisherman in boats close to the location of the incident had hearing issues for a long time, and the blast blew out windows on the majority of the boats within 15 miles of it. Needless to say, the pilots got into a LOT of trouble, and there were new rules put into place to make sure that the military pilots didn't get any ideas to do it again.

I love air shows. I've been meaning to attend one. The last time I went was when I was in elementary school. We the to the Carlswell AFB Airshow. Cool as hell. That B1 was f*cking loud when it has the afterburners going!!!! We saw ALOT of cool planes that day.

I'm shooting my first airshow this summer, and I was told that one was going to be there.

I know that it was taken very, very seriously that this aircraft would be showing up.

Yeah some of these sound cool, but to me the coolest sounds from aircraft I have experience came from flyovers of old P51 Mustangs and other WWII stuff. Not as loud, just something about them. And you have to imagine the sounds of dozens if not hundreds flying at the same time out of England over to Europe. Must have been something to behold.
