Side note: To those not wanting dual format combos (ie HD-DVD/DVD), they are re-releasing almost all the HD-DVD combos as pure HD-DVD only...basicaly they listened to the customers complaints, and will soon be offering you a choice. Do want the combo or just the HD-DVD..
In other words, HD-DVD prices will further drop.

So what to become of my DVD collection? I already threw away my VHS collection, and now this.

I say keep it. I never owned a VHS collection but I don't think I am going to throw my 700+ DVDs collection away.

a good HD-DVD player or Blu-Ray player will upscale DVDs to HD resolution. Note that most do it better than the <$100 upscaling DVD players, too.

The Silicon Optix Reon and the Achor Bay chips do a very good job. The PS3 does a great job, too. It won't make DVDs comparable to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray but it will greatly improve them.

Then again you have those non-anamorphic 4:3 widescreen DVDs. I can't even watch those anymore. I've replaced all of those with HD versions if available.

Xbox 360 and the high def player add on is the way to go.

Best gaming system and cheapest route to HD DVD video format...for now at least.

*shrug* must have missed that on the internet.

Looks like I won't be getting either transformers movies on DVD/ hi def. After watching hi def, its not worth watching regular dvds. Good thing transformers is the only real good movie to come from paramount, its not a big loss. Plus we still get speilberg movies.

actually the only speilberg movie announced is close encounters (and that's Sony so it will be blu-ray).

Neither format has a Spielberg film even in the pipeline.

I bought a HD DVD player and so far I am very impressed with the picture quality. Makes me not want to buy regular dvd anymore. I love HD but I am really having a hard time finding HD movies. I went to many stores and it seems that its competition Bluray disc outnumber HD dvd. Bluray has a lot titles to choose from. I heard that Bluray is winning and right now I am having second thoughts about my HD player. I am thinking of return it and get a Bluray player. HD player is cheaper but I rather start a collection of movies disc that won't discontinue in the future.
I rather wait, until the format war is over.

Pretty much. I have the HD-DVD drive that came with my xbox but won't be buying any movies until I find out for sure Bluray on PS3 is pretty useless too for the same reason
