Default HDTV question

I just purchased a 42" LCD, 1080P / 29,000-1 CR pretty nice unit. Is there really any need to have it "calibrated" Does it help with the picture and longevity of the unit? I just want to be sure I'm protecting my investment along with getting the best possible performance out of it as well.

Try out AVS Forum for recommended settings for your TV. It's a great site for everything home theater.

if you buy the incredibles or toy story 2 it comes with a calibration program.

then if u want you can buy the glasses off THX? website for further tuning.

Not necesary. It doesn't help life or picture. Just set it for your preferences.

Well it certainly does help the picture, but the most accurate representation your TV can display may not be the settings you prefer. Personally I'd look at settings from AVS forum, and use those as a start to play around with. You can also get a calibration DVD and toy around too, but anything beyond that, like professional calibration, probably costs more than the benefit is worth to the average consumer.

I got this
http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-Essent...22704593&sr=8-1

It was definitely worth the money. I ended up with weird settings, but they looked very natural. I would have never gotten there without the DVD. The tests are super simple and use the standard adjustments.

You can also share it with your friends!

Don't calibrate until after your burn in time is over.

I just bought a 60" Hitachi P60X901 for $1999 shipped, BNIB, no tax, free stand.
