Default Headed to Cabo

As the title says, will I need a rental car? I don't know how spread out stuff will be. I plan on taking a tour or two. Either ATV or dune buggy. Don't know if these usually pick up at the hotel.

Looking to do a full PADI course when I get there, any dive shop recommendations welcome.

Any advice on restaurants as well.

We will eitehr be staying at the Hilton or Pueblo Bonita. Don't know where these are in relation to the nightlife and such. I am told the Bonita has a shuttle to another hotel that is a five minute walk from town.

I am also guessing that personal security is not an issue. In other words, as safe to walk around at 2 am as say Cancun.

Gimme some travel advice bitte.

TIA

Edith's (pronounced "Edit's"), Squid Roe, Giggling Marlin (great breakfast), The Office (on the sand), the Shrimp Factory (great shrimp), The Trailer Park (great lobster).

If you're staying on the Cape, you can probably get by with shuttles and taxis. Most tours leave from the docks.

You don't need a rental car. Taxi's are reasonable. Activities pick you up at hotel.

Was just there in March. Rental car is pretty much a must unless you are staying in the downtown area. IF you are in one of the outer resorts the taxi(van) is $30-$40 each way for up to 8 people.

Must Do places to eat/drink at:

Mi Casa - excellent Mexican Food
Hemmingway's - great Mojitos with a little Jazz. Excellent Humidor.
Mommas - awesome breakfast (is called Felix's in the evening for dinner)
Panco's - Excellent Mexican Food (liked it better than Mi Casa)

Several places rent cars for the day. Read the liability carefully, dirt roads specifically excluded, which is 85% of baja del sud. Ony drove to dive spots, and found bribes required and vandalism at each, so better to just do a dive boat.

Ouch. Not good.

I am ok getting by without a car if tours pick up at the hotel AND it is safe to walk around after dark. I am not afraid but the wife is skittish. I walked aroundshady parts of New Orleans and Montiego Bay in Jamaica well after most things shut down and was not scared, but in retrospect something could have happened real easy.

This Peublo Bonita hotel has another property near town, and apparently you take the shuttle to the other property and then walk five minute to town. Not sure exactly what kind of conditions one is supposed to walk through though.

I presume it is pretty safe since there should be tourists everywhere.
