Coche is the proper term. Carro is spanglish.

 

Actually further..."Por favor, no laven el auto" or...you can simply say "Lava el auto y te corto los huevos"...

Coche...only in Mexico and Spain...carro and auto in Central America and South America....or "fierro" in Peru/Chile

Carro and Coche are both correct. Auto is the one that is a derivative of automovil...

 

I guess I was thinking about camion v. troca. But coche is certainly more common to me.

'troca' is a even funnier as in mid/south America it stands for "burdel" or "whorehouse".... can't use that one for sure when entertaining clients...er...unless they are entertaining you!

Again, it depends where exactly you are in order to use the "most" common used ones...camioneta, combi, camion, "cleta", etc....each country has got its own name for everything. I do business in 98 countries currently, a lot of them spanish speaking ones...it is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing the things you learn....

 

As someone said above it all depends where you are from. 1-In Miami with the wide range of Hispanics down here it is said "Carro", definetly not really said as Coche. 2-I am from Colombia which would be in South America and upon a recent visit (considering my entire family is over there) it is said "Carro".

Not really. Carro is South American. A Carro in spain is a horse pulled carriage.
