I need some new sticks, mine are outdated. I have some nice fairway irons and putter, but I need some new p-9 and a few woods. Im looking for a 'forgiving' wood, but certainly nothing along the lines of a beginner set. Any suggestions in the 4-600 range?

Go to a shop that has a driving range... I hit several different sets of irons that, on paper, were very similar, but they weren't. I wouldn't try a set without wacking a few balls first...

Go try out the sets at the local shop and once you have a choice go to Ebay. I got a brand new set of irons still in bubblewrap with MSRP of $1100 and street price of about $900 for $300 on Ebay! They probably "fell" off a truck but hey, not my problem!

You definitely need to hit balls at the range with different brands and find the ones that you like not only visually, but that fit your swing personally. That being said, I'm in love with Pings, but you'll probably hear that from anybody that has a particular brand.

Even more important than brand is that the clubs fit you, and that's the biggest reason I love my Pings. Ping has one of the best fitting systems out there, and a shop or range should be available in your area so that you can customize the clubs lie, shaft, and grip size to your swing. Pings cost a little more, but the price includes custom clubs to your specs.

I've hit the new Ping Eye 3+ and if you don't at least try these out, you're definitely missing out. If you find the right shop, you should be able to get a set of Ping Eye 3+ (3-9) for less than $700 with steel shafts.

If you are serious (or trying to get serious), custom fitting is the ONLY way to go.

Height, arm length, swing speed, your OWN swing, etc.....I could go on forever on why off the rack clubs WON'T fit you right.

Why would you spend so much money on something that may not fit?

When I went to custom fit Mizuno's, all my divot's were immediately consistent, and you have a degree of confidence that you won't get with off the rack clubs.

Plus, in most cases, custom fitting doesn't cost extra at all, you may just have to wait a little longer to get your clubs.

Another option is to have clubs 'bent' to your lie/loft...that's IF the shaft is even right.
