help with quick launch
i have a problem.. for some odd reason, i have this porn program that installed itself onto my computer, and launches onto the quick start on the task bar. You know, the area that has the mouse controls, my IM icon, the clock.
I don't know how it appeared but the only way i can get rid of it is to launch the program, ctrl-alt-del and end the task.
It is freakn annoying. not only that. but i would be happy if it was a decent porn program, but it does nothing!!! it is in some weird language, and non of the links work!!!!.
so i am mad that i have this porn program on my computer and that it doesn't work!!! haha... help!!!
before my mom sees it......
haha.. kidding about the mom.. but yeah!.. help!!
BTW, it is not anywhere else in the start menu or the program menu. the only thing left is to go to regedit. but i really don't want to do that yet....

check the startup folders (I have win98se):
C:WINDOWSStart MenuProgramsStartUp
and
C:WINDOWSAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartUp
If not there click START/Programs/accessories/system tools/system information
Then under the Tools tab select System Configuration Utility
click the Startup tab
review the programs listed, uncheck it if you find it.
reboot to make sure you haven't shot yourself in the foot!
I love Windows...

best way to do it... hopefully you are in win98 or newer, so... start - run - MSCONFIG and you'll see the 'startup' there, which has registry keys you can check/uncheck/etc. from loading up. or else, you can do a manual edit, which is no big deal. if you have ICQ, I can walk you through it.
Also:
Open "REGEDIT" (start->run the type 'regedit')
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionRun
Open the above "keys" by clicking each name (first HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, etc..)
They each open a tab... until you open "RUN"
Look to the right window and see if there's anything that "runs" automatically in there that should be..you can just delete the key that is running the offending program.

You could search for it in the registry and then rename or delete it there. I had to do this for an Earthlink dialup update manager that would sit in the taskbar. Win2k does not have msconfig.
what do i search for? the name that appears on the task bar? it is in some foreign language. I think it is Polish. i will try some of these solutions!!!.. well, all except The Unabageler solution of format C:..... i will leave that till i am really desperate.... and upgrading my HD...

what OS are you running, this would help a little.
If you're on Windows 2000, Do this:
Click Start --> Control Panels --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management
In the window that comes up, on the left pane under System Tools:
Expand System Information --> Software Environment --> Startup Programs
Then click View in the menu and select Advanced. Tell me everything that you see on the right pane. There should be 4 columns: Program, Command, User Name and Location
