help with snowboarding.
you guys've been great help to me.
I'll take lessons. But for equipment, I want to spend about $4-500. Last time when i rented ski, it had no edges. So if I could, I'd rather buy one to replace my ski.
I think it will be better for me to have board that can turn faster. do you recommend any company? Is there any thing I should be aware of?
thanks,

ehh how often do u plan on going?
i love snowboarding but i dont even go that often, maybe once or twice a year.. tahts why i only rent.. it's a long for me thats why..
i think 4-500 bucks will get u kick-ass equipment.. but then if i were u, i'd rent it first.. since its ur first time.. then when u get better, buy it, so u dont risk messing anything up. it's as if u were gonna learn how to drive stick in an s2k, wouldn't u rather learn how to drive in a POS car first? =-P
and also, wut if u go, and it turns out u suck (not sayin u will i'm just givin u a scenario hahaha), and then u never want to go again, then that means u wasted about 500 bucks in equipment rite? so i still suggest renting ur first time.. a lot of places have "beginner packages" that include a lesson+full rental..
anyway if u do plan on buying stuff... ppl would proably tell u burton's a kick-ass brand.. u can probably get everything for under 500 too.
i'm sure there's ppl that know more than me about this.. i'm still a n00b at this.. i'm still a "falling leaf" =-P

oh and also, someone mentioned that u should get regular bindings and not step ins.
basically bindings are what secures ur boots to the board.
step-in bindings are like.. it's a metal bar that's on the bottom of the boot, and u step into the board, and the metal bar locks in place..
traditional bindings are where the boots are strapped in..
i haven't tried traditional ones, i've only tried step-ins, so i can't really tell u why traditional is better
more things to add:
remember to always have ur leash tied.. u dont want to lose the board, if leaving the board in the snow without the leash, put the board upside down (it's a common n00b mistake to not leave it upside down, because if u don't, it's going to slide down the mountain, and u wont be able to get it) =-P
uhmm,
when getting off the lift, LEAN FOWARD, again, for some reason, n00bs dunno how to get off the lift... i didn't, i would lean back and i'd fall, lean foward, and u'll stay on ur board, i'd rather run into someone at 5mph then fall on my ass and get run over by 10 ppl who are also falling off the lift =-P
uhh iunno other than that i dunno wut else to tell u..
gloves, chapstick, sunblock, sunglasses, 2-layers of socks? *shrug*
oh and don't feel bad if u spend half the day lying on ur ass.. cuz half the ppl there will be doing the same..

Despite your experience with ski rentals - RENT! At least until you know you like it.
The big difference between ski and snowboard rentals is that there are no "rental quality" boards, unlike the cheap skiis produced for rentals. The shop that rents has some money invested in theiur equipment, and therefore takes better care of it. At least this is usually the case.
Have fun - and take a lesson or three!

Try to go 2 days in a row, or back to back weekends. You'll need to go more than once to 'get it.' I've taught a few friends how to snowboard and I tell them all the same thing.... 'Plan to spend the first two days on your ass' You're gonna fall a lot. Usually sometime during the second days, things will click and you'll stop falling soo much. Good luck!! and lessons will help!
