Default here's a cool "I just got pulled over" story

SO i just got a speeding ticket and here is how the story goes:

Cruising top down 11:00pm about 20 miles south to a friends house and most driving is on freeway. I switch out of fastlane, a minivan that was in front of me also decides to switch lanes but changes mind once the driver sees me next to him (phew). At the same time my buddy behind me switches 2 lanes over. About 5-10 seconds later i change back into the fastlane (i didnt want to be a jerk and make it obvious i am going around the minivan to be nice). When i switch back, my friend that is 2 lanes over cuts both lanes at once while speeding up and tailgates the F out of me! It caught my attention and i check my mirrors and see crown vic lights switch lanes and speed up. The cop goes between me and my friend and pulls me over. I exit and park. Me and my passenger are dumbfounded as to why we got pulled over. I was cruising around 80-85 (honestly this was maybe 3mph faster then flow of traffic and i am being generous, i dnt want to say i was going slower because i am not sure).

The first thing the Cop is "Did you know the car behind you?", i say no. He then says "Because i was going to pull him over since he was on your ass but since you pulled away i always go for the faster car". From, here the cop was really chill, he wasnt rude or over assertive. From there i tell "officer i didn't speed up, i noticed your position once the car was behind me" he repeats that i was going really fast and took off really fast and he was forced to pull me over instead. This is what didnt make sense to me because i let off the gas when i noticed him. regardless, the cop said he will cut me a break and give me a ticket for 75mph. His justification for saying i was going 85 was that he was doing 80.

I get to my friends house where my buddy is that was diving the car behind me runs up to me asking what happened. I ask him, and he says that he noticed the car once he changed lanes behind me and he HIT THE BREAKS.... this is where i makes sense why the cop thought i sped up. My buddy hits the breaks putting distance between his car and mine making it look like i am pulling away. At least that the conclusion i came too.

Either way, its better i got the ticket then my friend because i have a clean record and can go to traffic school so it won't affect my insurance, plus my buddy is broke. But I am only mad that he is the reason I got pulled over for his crazy lane change stunt. I know this is why i got pulled over because the cop said so..

sorry for long post, but thought i would share and ask if its worth fighting. My only question is why did i get a speeding ticket. The cop, himself, saw a car ride my ass and i confirmed that he was right. It should be end of story here and he should send me on my way. And if we go along with the cops idea of what happened, if someone is riding you rear bumper, you put a bit of distance and make a safe lane change. But the cop gives me a ticket instead for me "pulling away".

your thoughts? and forgive me for any typos.

It seems that the only things that really matter are that you were speeding and you got a speeding ticket. If the only reason he noticed you were speeding was because people around you slowed down to the legal speed limit, that doesn't really change the fact that you were speeding. You can fight the ticket but you're admitting here you were travelling 5-10 mph faster than stated on the ticket, so...

It's brakes.

You were speeding; you got a speeding ticket. Just because everyone else is breaking the law doesn't mean you're protected from repercussions for doing the same.

Ya definitely, one mile over is still speeding. NO one was braking around me, In San Diego where i Live, people drive 80+ on the 805 freeway. I usually hang out in the number 3 or 4 lane and travel from 65-75 because i don't like the noise from the car. The speed wasn't the reason why i got pulled over. But understanding that anything over 65 is still speeding and this is a speeding ticket, there isnt anything to fight. Only thing i am saying is that the COP had thought i was speeding off, and according to his story is was because of a tailgating car that made a double lane change in one sweep. I ask him if he saw that and he was said yes. We agreed on everything. The Cop was also hesitant to give me a ticket, he stood in front of me and looked at his notepad and stuttered a bit before he took a breath and said heres your ticket. Again, I am not upset i got a speeding ticket, only upset that my friends stupid driving got me pulled over.

If it's your first offense/ticket go to court and say guilty with explanation. Say the story you just told us, and the judge might just drop it. Why was your friend riding your ass like a dick anyway?

How stupid do you think cops are? If your friend hit the BRAKES (notice the spelling) then the cop would notice that he was hitting the BRAKES and that you were not speeding up. Additionally, cops are trained enough to be able to tell the difference between a vehicle deceleration and accelerating. Heck I would hope that anybody with a good set of eyes could tell the difference!

At least you didn't get a ticket for not using your turn signal.
