The novels are worth reading, they fill in some interesting gaps and give insight to areas not addressed in the show.

so is the show about to come to the end? they keep saying "final chapters" the last couple episodes, is that for the season or for good? that would suck if for good! there is so much that is going on it would seem that it couldnt be ending.
but yes tonights show was awsome, to finally get a peek into claires father and what hes about.
