HEROES
Ok,
I'll say that when battling Ando, it only requires a small amount of 'brain power'... thus its 'easier' for him to use 2 powers at once.
Also, all along the series... Sylar has always had a better control of an assumed power... Peter tends to struggle w/ it.
Now then.. battling peter w/ significantly more power than the rest... sylar needed to focus more attention.. thus not being able to use the other powers.... ( hearing nikki open whoop a$$ and hiro w/ the sword )
Now for peter... well.. he's just about to blow his load.. kinda difficult to think about anything else....

I really think the ending could have been setup better... I don't think there was a real need to kill off Nathan. They could have very easily kept him alive and the storyline could have remained accurate to the future predictions. It really bothers me that the only inaccurate part of the predictions (so it seems) is Nathan's presidency.
This is my take on what should have happened.
During the final encounter Sylar should have faced off against Peter and Ando alone. He should have been holding both of them by the neck, arms outstretched, just above his head. Sylar then laughs mockingly at how weak they are. While laughing Hiro appears directly in front of him, driving the sword home with no warning, and no silly running charge.
At this point Sylar realizes he is dying, the life blood draining out of him he says "If this is my future, you are all coming with me... TO HELL!" At this point he begins to go radioactive. Everyone panics and runs for cover, except Peter.
Peter picks himself up, flesh melting from his face and grabs the screaming supernova that is/was Sylar. He picks him up and shoots up, like a burning angel for the stars. Seconds later the explosion rips through the sky.
Thus all of the future predictions come true. Sylar gets stabbed and "dies", Peter "explodes" and both are gone for the time being.
This would leave great future stories. Sylar was saved by the mysterious uber-bad guy. Peter returns with or without a scar and Nathan still becomes president.
The real key point with Nathan as president would have been the ability of his mother to manipulate him. He could have been marketed as saving the city from the explosion and once in the Whitehouse season three could have revolved around his mothers urging to force all "mutants" to "register" with the government ala the extinction agenda.
That's my 2 cents.

I'd vote you into the writer's circle.
Like you said, the future paintings all came true. But if Nathan's dead that means Sylar does live, gets the illusion powers, and takes Nathan's place. Otherwise Nathan-as-Pres is the only incorrect image?
By the way, Peter knew Issac so why isn't he gaining future-visions just as Sylar did?
