Hey, if you are as bored as I am come see this...
Our IS guys put together a 4 minute video of all our launches so far. Kinda cool...

To oversimplify the hell out of it
1. I receive the satellite from the customer at our facility
2. I stack it onto the spacecraft adapter
3. I stack the Spacecraft/Adapter combo onto the interface skirt
4. Hook up all associated electrical/mechanical/explosive interfaces
5. I stash the S/C assembly inside the payload fairing (The nose cone of the rocket)
6. I take the fairing with the spacecraft inside of it and attach it to the business end of a Russian/Ukrainian rocket, the Zenit-3SL
7. I help the Russians transfer the whole vehicle onto the launch platform
8. I ride out to the Equator(14 days each way, blech) with the launch platform and babysit the satellite along the way
9. I help the Russians roll the sucker outside and stand it up for launch
10. I helicopter over to the Command and Control ship and watch it go...
11. I twiddle my thumbs for 14 days on the ride home
Unfortunately our customers are way behind in delivery so I actaully just sit around on the S2000 board all day killing time.

We have a pretty decent amount of openings. Lots of guys have got so bored waiting for the next launch they have had enough and quit. I approached that line but then I went back to school so work is kind of like a paid study hall. Last launch was May 8th, 2001. Next launch approximately May, 2002!
There is no doubt I love my job when things are happening but when they are not, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
And mind you, these boats ain't no Love Boat. They are pretty skanky, unpleasant working boats. No pool, no TV, not much. Try staying in your garage for a month with nothing except an internet connection and an old VW diesel rabbit idling. It gets old. Ahh the smell of diesel in the morning (an afternoon, and night)

Hey TH,
I was just down in Long Beach yesterday going across the 2 bridges (Vincent Thomas and the other one). I was looking for the rig, but couldn't see it.
I remember when Boeing was first building the sea launch platform. A lot of us didn't think it was going to work. Looks like you proved us all wrong.

How in the hell did you miss the Launch Platform?!!
It is FREAKING huge! It is on the very end of the old Navy mole. It is between the 2 bridges on the ocean side of the bridges.(Towards Catalina)
