anyone think its a bad idea to send their kid to school with all the negative influences of peer pressure? what is the worst that could happen if a kid doesnt go to school?

i knew a couple home schooled kids...no one like them and they had no idea how to interact with people. this led to teasing and humiliation, which in turn caused them to react in an even more unfortunate way to this. it is sad

 

I was homeschooled, I guess socially I'm not as adaptive as others,but its never gotten in the way with me finding friends and anyone who would tease or humilate others is an asshole and most people (even on-homeschooler) wouldn't wanna be around someone like that.


As far as education goes,by far superior, from 8th grade and up I slammed my work for 4 months straight and had the rest of the year off to just do whatever.

 

I have been Home Schooled, Private Schooled, and Public Schooled....I have to say, I have a strong WILL and being around or not around people didn't make a bit of difference on me. My parents raised me to be me, not me as my peers wanted me to be. I personally feel if your raising your kids right, who they are around shouldn't matter!!!

But anyway, as someone that has been in three different types of schooling, I personally liked home schooling!! I spent 2 days doing all my school work and spent the rest of the time either moving ahead and learning more lessons or whatever else. I was home schooled for 2 yrs, when we moved back to Texas I was faced with going to public school. I refused to go into the grade I was supposed to be in so I was tested, and tested 2 years ahead of public schools!! I was in public schools for 3 yrs, at which point I hated it and my parents moved me to private school where I felt more challenged. I always wished we could have found another school that I could have done home schooling with.

 

Well since i am 14 I am guessing i have say in this .
IMO-I think home school would be boring. Because your not being socially active with other peers. But on the brite side u get to have snack time whenever you want .

 

most people that were home schooled were/are a bit on the socially awkward side. they are pretty smart though.

i would and am sending my kids to public schools, hopefully a magnet school and teach them stuff on the side. compromise!

 

terrible idea. School is as much about learning social skills and maturing with one's peers as it is about Algebra or History. I would caution against greatly accelerating a child in school, too (ie, skipping grades).

The only reason that the "bad influences and peer pressure" would be a problem would be if you as a parent aren't involved and proactive in your child's education. Set a good example, be supportive, listen to their concerns, make sure that they know they can talk to you about stuff. Don't blame "society" or "schools;" take responsibility for guiding your kid positively.

And yeah, big deal, kids in high school have sex with each other. Kids in high school drink, smoke weed. You were once there, you know what it was like. And don't think Private school and preparatory academies are different. If anything, they're worse because of the natural teenage rebelliousness; if you can't express yourself constructively, you'll express yourself destructively.

Part of growing up is being faced with adversity and dealing with it. If I were a college admissions officer, I would be skeptical of home-schooled children, even if their scores were high. The kids who were the most sheltered are also the ones who end up dead in ditches of alcohol poisoning when they finally break free of their parent's shackles.

IMHO, of course.

 

Home school = for SO many reasons.

Agreed that Public School has it's downsides, but home schooling has about 10 times more downsides.

 

i hope you are not implying anything. i only mentioned that they were teased and humiliated.

furthermore, and perhaps more unfortunately, they actually did want to be around these people.

this was at the high school level after their entire primary school education of being home schooled
