I'm not all that surprised it has a pretty high top speed...it has a coefficient of drag something like .2...it just takes a while to get there.

Actually the aerodynamics of the Honda Insight is quite good and there is no problem getting the car up to high speeds. It's just not some performance car, rather a very efficient fuel saving vehicle that isn't that slow neither. I bet it will probably run as good as most small engined sized cars on the market but requires so much less fuel to run. Don't forget, the car does share alot of common parts and design of the S2000. Especially the steering wheel and EPS and the digital console.

johnyboy32 is correct.

Insight is primarily gasoline powered, therefore it will not "sneak up on you like some kind of stealth car". Electric motor is used to assist the tiny gasoline engine.

Main complaints I've heard about the Insight is that it's so lightweight that it blows around the road during any kind of wind. Still an amazing car though, leave it to Honda.

Kindof interesting that Honda makes the highest NA specific output engine in the world and the most fuel efficient engine in the world...in the same plant no less.

I run into a guy during my oil changes, seems his Insight is always in for repairs, not sure if this is just a lemon or indicative of the car. Another thing, if the engine shuts down at every stop, what about wear? Is it not true that an engine suffers its worst wear on start up? so in my average drive I would be re-starting my engine 100 times in a day..

As an aside on electric cars, I gotta figure, that if the right minds got together, and electric sports car could be the ultimate. Figure peak torque at 1 rpm and flat thru the entire range. It might not be as cool as a humming gas-o-line engine, but put some F-1 noises on the stereo and the potential for supercar performance is not out of the realm of possibility.
