Jarno Trulli in the Jordan/Honda F1, with the majestic Sepang grandstands in the background, overcomes blistering heat to be the fastest driver in Friday practice. The Italian bettered Micheal Shumacher's time in the last 5 minutes of practice for the day. Trulli and the two Ferarris were the only cars in the 1:38 bracket, with only three other cars in the 1:39's. Hakkinen was the last car in that bracket in 6th position. Montoya has yet to turn in a complete lap and sits in second-to last.
